The IAPF Ultra-Light aircraft is now being used for conservation efforts in and around Victoria Falls. Purchased in Harare courtesy of a single specific donation it was flown to the Falls by a local instructor. Director Damien Mander has now been flying the aircraft in support of IAPF operations. It remains available for all tasks associated with conservation in Western Zimbabwe and Botswana.

Already, the aircraft has been used to locate and track injured animals, locate poachers, inspect boundaries, observe game movements, direct ground patrols and support IAPF ranger training operations.

What is truely needed in the region is a dedicated helicopter for anti poaching operations. This would allow rangers to be rapidly deployed in the event of such incidents as rhino horn and ivory poaching. It would allow hard-line poachers to be tracked from the air using thermal imaging as well as providing a vital MEDIVAC capability for rangers injured in the line of duty. Above all it would provide a major deterrent for poachers to continue their destructive ways.

Facilities to house and operate such an asset have already been sourced.
